Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown’s classic architectural theory Learning from Las Vegas has exercised a vital influence on Margreiter throughout her many years engaging with spatial structures. In a second exhibition gallery at mumok, she presents her recent film Boulevard, about the Neon Museum in Las Vegas, a kind of graveyard for discarded neon signs. Boulevard is rife with multifaceted references to the themes described above and to Margreiter’s earlier works. The glowing lettering, for example, recalls her film installation zentrum, which also deals with neon signs, and also her mobiles madeup of abstract letters, light spectacles in their own right. Based on her theoretical considerations and on Las Vegas, a place where architecture and fiction, visuality and materiality are paradigmatically intertwined, Margreiter therefore also draws a line with Boulevard to her current exhibition at the Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Vienna.
